Can't download or login: spinning "loading" popup

Hi Jordan,

I'm having trouble downloading anything on Pixelscrapper....is anyone else having this problem as well? I haven't downloaded anything here in quite a while (been a busy summer), and tonight was the first time I had an opportunity to do so.

Anyhow, I clicked on the download button & the screen brought up the "loading" box like it normally does, and I could see the icon spinning that tells me it's trying to load, but then nothing. It's like it's in a perpetual loop. At the top of the page in my browser it says "Firefox prevented this page from automatically reloading" and there's an "Allow" button. I click on that, and then the "loading" box goes away & I'm back at the original screen where you click on the "download" button - I'm not brought to the download screen.

Can you help me figure this out? Is it a setting in Firefox I need to change by chance? (I'm on the latest version) Or is there something going on that you are aware of & need to make a fix for?

Thanks,
lizanne

I'm also having trouble with logging in, too. When I click on the Login button in the upper right corner of the site it does that perpetual looping like I described above (with icon spinning) and nothing happens. I don't get any message from Firefox however. The only work around, I've been able to find, is to (1) right click on the Login button, (2) copy the link location, (3) paste that into my browser bar (http://www.pixelscrapper.com/modal_forms/nojs/login?destination=%3Cfront%3E), (4) remove everything past the "?" mark and (5) press enter. I'm then brought to a page where I can login, I do that, and then I'm brought to my Profile page, rather than back to the Main (or Home) page.

I hope these additional things will help you figure out what's going on. Like I said earlier, I haven't downloaded anything in a while. And there was a period last week when I wasn't logging in because my hubby took vacation time. So it's possible the download problem is not entirely new. But it's new to me as of yesterday. And the Login problem - that is fairly new. I hope you can figure this out quickly!

I've been having the same problem. I even got the same loading box trying to login. I had to come here and login through the forums.

Thanks for all your help!

Third day now having problems signing in for me. Takes multiple attempts. smiley

Thank you all for letting me know about this. I will look into this right away and see if I can figure out what's going on. It may take a couple of days to thoroughly troubleshoot this, but I'll keep you guys posted.

Please let me know if this issue changes at any time for any of you. Thanks.

Hi Jordan,

Not trying to be a pain or anything... just wondering if you've gotten anywhere with this yet? I haven't been able to download for over a week now, and my 'hearted' list is getting really long! Thank you for all you do!

Kourtney

P.S. I usually use Chrome, but I've tried IE and its not working there either. smiley

Hi kourtney, I'm still working on this... it's a tricky situation, because I'm not sure exactly what's causing the problem, and can't seem to reproduce it (tried on multiple computers, and the login/download popups load normally).

But don't worry about pestering me. Actually, it would be helpful, for now, if anyone experiencing this problem would post on this thread once a day or so, and let me know if the problem has gone away or not (as I mess around with things on my end).

I just responded back to your email, Jordan - I'm still having both problems (with the login & downloading).

Sorry...IT support me jumping in...have you tried:

Clearing your browser's cache?
Clearing your browser's cookies?
Updating your browser, if applicable?

Additionally, you could try running Malwarebytes to look for any infections and/or CCleaner for registry issues that may be part of the problem.

Sometimes outdated Java causes issues, too - you can check your version here.

And in Chrome, you could try adding IE Tab then open Pixelscrapper.com in it. Sometimes, I find that works better than Chrome.

Thank you Tina for all the suggestions! I had actually done the three already, have my computer set to scan every couple days and even tried in IE itself and nothing worked! I tried the IE Tab and for whatever reason that did! Thanks! I didn't even know anything like that was available!

So Jordan, thank you for all your hard work! But I'm in now! And downloading! Yay! smiley

--Kourtney

@Tina I have not been having problems except yesterday when the site was down but wanted to Thank you for posting those steps. I usually do them but it is nice to have a list instead of trying to remember what I did last time. hahaha Wonder if Jordan could work on my memory problems JK

Hi there,
I tried logging on the home page and I too get the login looping thing going on. Never this problem before. Just wanted to let you know.

I too was able to login thru the forum here. I'm going to go try to download something and see what happens.
Thanks,
Kristie

@Tina.... I was in IT support, too. Already did all that stuff. smiley That's why I made the post to Jordan... I use Panda Internet Security which is a much better product than Malware Bytes (Panda blocks things that haven't even been defined yet - it looks at activity, not just pre-existing definitions), run CCleaner every day, defrag at least once a week, allow Microsoft to install updates as they come (there was one today, in fact), and am on the latest version of Firefox as well as Java... IOW, I know my system's clean & it's not me.

@Jordan: I know there were a couple crucial updates to Firefox in the last couple weeks, as well as java updates. Is it possible this could be a Google issue? (just something to think about) I run Adblock Plus & Ghostery, and Google always shows up as invasive element...

I know you wanted us to let you know, daily, if we're still having the same problems so here we go....

When I click on "Login" in the upper right corner of the site, it brings up a pop-up box (same picture I provided above) with that wheel icon & the wheel is spinning. That's all it does - spin indefinitely. Normally I'd be given the Login box where I'd enter my username & password.

I told you about my Login work-around. Well, today I copied the URL on the Login button (http://www.pixelscrapper.com/modal_forms/nojs/login?destination=%3Cfront%3E), pasted it into my browser bar & pressed enter - I did not delete everything past the question mark. And this time it brought me to another page (rather than a pop-up box) where I was given the ability to enter in my username & password. I did so & I was brought back to the main page (where I normally would be brought when I logged in with the Login Button). A pain, but it works.

As for downloading.... I still cannot download anything. It does the same thing that it does when I try to use the Login Button - brings up a pop-up box with a wheel that spins indefinitely & doesn't go anywhere.

I hope you can figure this out soon - it's very frustrating.

@Lizanne Did you try using Chrome and the IE Tab? Also in Firefox? If it worked in either, then that would then lean towards the rending the browser does with the code. I have found IE Tab to sometimes be a temp fix, like when Chrome thinks its latest update worked and didn't! My next thought would be to disable any extensions you have in Firefox, then re-enable, one by one.

@Kourtney Glad it worked!

@Sharron Maybe he can make a sticky with some basic troubleshooting steps like this! (hint, hint) smiley

@Tina: NOooo, I did not - I do not use Chrome (or any other Google products, for that matter). And yes, I do use Firefox (as I stated above). I also worked in IT support, and have checked what needs to be checked. My pc is in great shape, working fine, and the only place I'm having problems with is here (Pixel Scrapper). I haven't made any changes to anything or downloaded any new extensions - everything is the same way it was when I had no problems in Pixel Scrapper. The only thing "new," is the normal Microsoft updates, java updates & Firefox updates - my PC has the latest for all of those, as I explained earlier.

@Jordan: Complying with your earlier request to give a daily update. Nothing's changed - I am still not able to use the Login button to login (work around posted in previous posts); and I am still not able to download anything (no work around for that). Same result - spinning icon that just spins indefinitely & nothing happens - I am never brought to the download screen.

In case I hadn't mentioned this before, I am having the same experience in IE... I tested it in there, as well, to make sure this wasn't just a Firefox issue. Oh, and the spinning wheel I keep referring to is called the java wheel (if that helps).

(Firefox is my default browser - I have version 23.0.1, which is the current version. For IE, I have version 10.0.9200.16660. Java is 7u 25, which is the latest version. I have both the 32-bit & 64-bit java installed. And I did a Plugin Check & all my plugins are up-to-date as well. I whitelisted pixelscrapper.com in Ghostery; and I have Adblock Plus disabled for pixelscrapper.com.)

I was showing my husband what happens tonight when I try to login or download (wanted to get a 2nd opinion on this - he's an IT mgr w/a strong network+hardware background), and he said it was almost like there was a hidden prompt that wasn't being displayed.... Or maybe a certificate is trying to load & it isn't loading?

@Tina: thanks for your help and suggestions.

@Lizanne: I'm sorry that this issue is still not fixed for you. I have tried making some changes on the backend and frontend that I thought might fix it, but it seems that this is going to be a tricky one to track down. I do appreciate the daily updates (and all the information you have provided) as I continue to try and get to the bottom of this. Really sorry that this is preventing you from downloading at the moment smiley .

If anyone else is experiencing this issue, please post any information you can provide. The more feedback I can get on this, the better.

Thank you so much Lizanne for giving that link to log in, I am one who hasn't been able to log in at all since before I went to the UK which was 22nd August - I did email support, but guess it went to spam or you are snowed under! I too just get the spinning icon and no name or password box.

I use Firefox, not on the latest version, put Java on as I hadn't got it installed for some reason and still had problems. This has been for over 2 weeks now, as I went to download a freebie in one of the newsletters, but at first I just thought it was me - I had been able to post a comment in the gallery and the blog and then a couple of days later nothing!

I haven't tried downloading yet, but was just so pleased to get Lizanne's link - it was so frustrating not to be able to get in via the forum etc. Something has changed somewhere as I can't get in using IE either.

OK I tried to download and got the same spinning icon as Lizanne..... guess this is going to take some sorting!

Update: I just tried downloading a single item (the Malaysia Stitch 07 Frame White), and this time it brought up the d/l.........so progress! smiley ........but I cancelled it for the time being as I might want to get that via the kit or bundle d/l option. I haven't tested out kits or bundles yet, but this is good. Don't know what changes you made that helped, Jordan (THANK YOU!!), but I am ever so thankful that I can d/l individual items again.

The login problem, however, is still there. While I can't use the button to login, at least I have a work around for that so I am happy.

@Katey: glad that link helped you. Try doing a d/l again & see if it works now. Jordan may have made a change since you last tried. smiley If it still doesn't work, let him know.

Also try to get on the latest versions of your software (and plugins), too. Shouldn't take too long to do... There's been some crucial updates with Firefox (to correct security loopholes they found) & with java.

@ Jordan: Please let me know if I should make a new thread about this or not...

I just wanted to let you know that something new is happening since you made whatever changes you made... Now I am brought to a Captcha screen, when I try to make a post within a thread or edit a post I've made (to add additional info., for example). It makes me type in text I see in a box on the screen.

Is this going to happen all the time now? Is there a work-around for this? (setting I need to change or something) I've only seen this at d/l sites like Mediafire...

@Lizanne: I tried to download again and still have just the spinning icon and loading message. I have the latest firefox now and java and everything else I can think of. It hasn't made any difference, I still can't log in except through your link and the login option at the bottom of this page.

@Lizanne: the captcha is part of a new security system that I am in the process of setting up. I am in the process of adjusting the sensitivity, so that we don't get too many false positives. In your case, you should not need to pass the captcha at all, so that indicates that things need some tweaking. I've just made some changes, so please let me know if the captcha page comes up again for you. If the captcha does come up again, please start a new thread for that issue.

@Lizanne, Katey, and others experiencing the perpetual "loading" popup:

Please visit http://javatester.org/javascript.html and post or link to a screenshot of what you see (if you don't know how to take a screenshot of your screen and share it, you can use a little program called TinyGrab which is available here). All the information on that page is important, so I need to see a screenshot; simply saying "it showed javascript is working" is not enough.

Your screenshot should look like this (click the link to see): http://i.imgur.com/w9zpagM.png

here's my screenshot

@ Jordan: I don't know if this will help or not, but I copied the info. from the developer toolsets within IE & Firefox for you (see below). Maybe it will help you figure out what's going on with the login problem. I will post the javascript screenshot you requested in a separate post. smiley

@Lizanne and Katey: thanks for posting the screenshots.

And thanks for posting the console output Lizanne. That was very helpful. Most of those errors are not critical, but the bit about the ga_cookie being null may be the source of our problem! Normally that cookie should not be null, but there is the chance that it could be... have you explicitly opted out of Google Analytics tracking at some point?

In any case, I've tweaked some code that may have been breaking because of that cookie being null.

Let me know if you can login/download now!

thank you so much Jordan and Lizanne... I can download and log in now...... it feels wonderful!

Yay! I could Login normally today! smiley Thank you so much, Jordan!

@Katey: glad it's working for you, too!
