Things have Changed with the Pinterest "Pin It" on my Chrome

Just wondering if others are having this issue as well.

I wanted to Pin It (a photo of a Kit I loved) to a Pinterest board and wasn't able to.

@Jordan, I used to be able to use the Pinterest "Pin It" button with my Chrome browser...but when I tried this evening, I wasn't able to get the pop-up window and choose the photo and board.

I finally noticed that in the web address I was getting a "shield" when trying to Pin. The message when hovering is: "This page includes script from unauthenticated sources." So I clicked on it, and got the option to "load unsafe script". It then loaded a page with the Pinterest banner on top, and changed the web address to "https://www.digitalscrapbook.com/marisa-lerin/kits/paper-templates-016-kit-stars-arrows-black" which had the lock marked out.

I don't recall having to do this before when I've pinned items from DigitalScrapbook.com. So I thought I'd post about it here, in case others are having trouble as well. Though I'm not sure how to get my page then back to the secure http:

Hm... I haven't had that issue, Laura. Can you post a link of of the exact url where you were trying to pin something?

Thanks for reporting this.

Took me a while to get these screen shots ready, it was a busy weekend.

In the above photo I tried to catch 1# the java script that was popping up, hopefully it can help. If you know of a better way for me to catch it all, let me know. 2# the "Pin IT" button I was using.

This screen shot that I took today shows the shield that pops up in the html address.

And what the pop-up gives you....

@Jordan: Apparently it's affecting all the kits that I've tried. https://www.digitalscrapbook.com/marisa-lerin/kits/khaki-scouts-elements-kit-camping-outdoors-fall-orange-blue-red-brown-yellow If I click the "Load Unsafe Script" I do get permission to pin, but then as I said, That Tab of the browser is un-secure. So to go back to a secure browser window, I've just been closing that browser tab or window and starting a new browser to continue visiting the site in a secure format.

It might be a Chrome Browser conflict with Pinterest issue.

Thanks for posting the helpful screenshots, Laura!

I think the issue here is actually with your Pinterest bookmarklet: that bookmarklet is an older version that is no longer supported by Pinterest. Try visiting http://about.pinterest.com/goodies/ , scroll down to the heading that says, "The Pin It Button", and click "Install Now".

See if that new Pin It buttons works properly for you.

Jordan: I've still got issues, but not sure what now. I was able to successfully load the Pinterest Button, the new updated version. I attempted to use it this evening on a couple of kits and wasn't getting anything happening, no error message either. So I went off the DigitalScrapbook.com site to test the button, and was able to successfully use it. I closed my Chrome Browser, and attempted back here, on the blog first, with again nothing.

I rebooted my computer, and tested both on the site and outside. It's working fine off the site, but I continue to get no response when on DigitalScrapbook.com. I was able to use the old Pin It button as I described above...just not getting the new one to work on the site, or give error message.

If you have Suggestions,... but don't worry about it to much unless other are also experiencing troubles.

That's strange, Laura: I've installed the Pinterest add on in Chrome on three computers, and it's working for DigitalScrapbook.com on all of them. Can you try clearing your browser cache, and see if that makes any difference? (instructions here).

Thanks again for reporting this...

This was happening with firefox about a month or so ago when ff made an update... certain sites wouldn't let anyone use the pin it button or any direct download links without clicking on the shield to allow it - a lot of people were having the same issue. It eventually stopped happening and I'm really not sure why. Maybe those sites updated their security certificates or maybe ff made a change.

I have no idea if that info will help, but thought I'd give my two cents, hehe. smiley

I have this problem whenever I try to pin something that is "secure" as in, it has the "https" in the address. When I go to the address bar, remove the "s" and reload, I am able to pin it. Hope that helps! smiley

@Julie: that's an issue with the old version of the Pin-It button that has since been fixed. Please try installing the latest version of the Pin It button by visiting http://about.pinterest.com/goodies/ : scroll down to the heading that says, "The Pin It Button", and click "Install Now".
