Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers who stop by, and to everyone who came from a mother! I'm happy to be able to spend the day with my mom, and I've made this little kit to celebrate the day! Check out the kit download and template download below.

Then and Now

Hey all! I've changed the poll over in the right sidebar. If you could take a minute to answer it would be really helpful. I'm trying to figure out what people do with the scrapbook pages when they download them so I know how to improve this feature. If you'd like to leave a comment with more information about what you do that would be REALLY appreciated!

I was going to make some sort of bribe for people who answered, but instead I'm just going to ask please: please take a minute and answer. Thank you in advance! And remember, there's no right answer...I'm happy to have you use the pages any way you like.

Every once in a while I come across something so simple and helpful that I wonder how I couldn't have known about it sooner. I figured I'd post them here, since while some of you have figured these out, I hate to leave anyone else in the dark :).

This first one is how to put a border on something quickly. Often I want a white border on a photo, or an outline on a tag. I used to have a very complicated method of doing it. Now, I've realized you can just use the stroke in layer styles. The key to getting a border without rounded edges is to set the style to stroke INSIDE the layer rather than outside. Change this where it says "position." You can also make the border whatever width and whatever color. And it's easily changed! (click on the photo to see it larger)

Happy Easter everyone! I hope everyone had a blessed day. I celebrated by (finally) arriving back "home" to my parents in Hanoi. After a long week of train travel through the jungles of Malaysia, it feels wonderful to unpack my backpack and eat a sandwich.

I'll be hanging out here for about a month, recovering from all the traveling and hopefully catching up on my scrapbooking. You can look forward to more regular posting while I enjoy the comforts of home.

I've just gone over the 2000 mark for pieces of conent on this site. That's over 2000 items for you to use, most of them with an unlimited, do whatever you want license. If you get a chance, leave a link in the comments to your favorite item on this site, or a link to your favorite thing you've made with Pixel Scrapper stuff.

Also, today I uploaded the first thing from the Vietnam: Together Again special release: some metal edged brads that you can add your own picture or color to. This special relase (which you can see in the left sidebar) was created for when the chip in reached $100, and I'm very pleased to keep seeing the donations coming in. Thank you! I was going through the google analytics data for Pixel Scrapper the other day and I realized that today is our birthday! Pixel Scrapper is one year old today. I can hardly believe that I've been running this site for a whole year! The site has come a long way in that time, but I still have so many hopes and dreams for its future. But for now I'm happy just to share my creations with you.

I would have made something special in honor of this birthday day, but I had no idea! So I'll just enjoy a piece of cake. If you get a chance, you should too!

The first goal has been met! The Chip In project has reached $100, so you can look for the special release items in the future. Thanks to everyone who donated. And don't forget, this was only the first goal, there's still $900 to go!

I've just posted this tutorial if you need any help recoloring gray scale assets. Since I'm on the go, I couldn't add any sound to the video, but hopefully you can piece together what's happening from the video and the text.

Tomorrow I'm on the road again. I've been in Penang, Malaysia for about a week and tomorrow we leave for Kuala Lumpur.

A great, free resource that I like to take advantage of when designing is Project Gutenberg. Project Gutenberg’s mission is “To encourage the creation and distribution of eBooks” and most are out of copyright, so if you’re looking for some filler text for design purposes, it’s an excellent place to look without worrying about licensing.

Also, I like to search through some of the books for images when I’m looking for something with a vintage or antique feel. Like with the text, you don’t have to worry about the copyright info.

Also, if you have an eReader, it’s a great place to look for free books!

It occurred to me lately that most of you who stop by this website have no frame of reference for the exotic pictures that are always showing up in my layouts. You may be thinking, "How is this girl always in a different place?" and perhaps, "How can I join her?"

2011.03.11 - Angkor Wat

From the beginning of our relationship, both my husband and I had a strong desire to travel. We had seen a lot, and traveled a lot as children, but somehow traveling rarely satisfies your curiosity, it only awakens it. And so we knew that we wanted to do a "world tour" with backpacks on our backs and only a rough plan in our heads. For two years we lived and worked as English teachers in Korea, saving our money and preparing our packs. And then the day arrived. We left the first and only home we had known in married life, got on a plane and didn't look back.

Now my only possessions are the clothes on my back and this computer. We live frugally day by day, staying with friends and strangers (www.couchsurfing.org), camping in our tent, and eating lots of bread. We rarely know where we will be in a day, let alone in a week. It can be tiring and exhausting to show up in yet another new town at the end of a long day of traveling, and look for yet another new place to stay, eat and prepare for tomorrow.

And yet, despite all that, the constant traveling is intoxicating. Everyday we see something new. Everyday something waits to surprise us with it's complete uniqueness from anything else I've seen. And the more places you visit, the more you realize what a miracle that is. While some things stay the same as we go, something will always stand out. And that's what keeps me going. What will I see tomorrow. I really have no idea, so I have to get up and go see.

Starting tomorrow (3/24) I'm going to start releasing products for my Vietnam: Together Again kit. I'm pretty excited about it. If you want to check out the finish book to see what's coming, go here. You may have noticed that I've started fundraising to cover the costs of running the website for the year. I'm hoping to raise $1000, which will cover the hosting and bandwith costs. Basically, if everyone who regularly uses the website gives $1, we should be fine. To help get things going, I'm going to hold some of the items I've created for this kit until we reach the $100 mark. See the picture below for those items.

If you enjoy Pixel Scrapper and want to continue to use it, please considering giving us a donation!
