About Me
New to Digital Scrapbooking, just started in 2019, want to make a record of family stories before my mother passes away. My dad died in 2016. I currently live in Canada but was born and raised in New Zealand, and emigrated to Canada upon marrying my Canadian spouse. Home Country - lets see - New Zealand or Canada? Which to choose? Most of my photos will be from NZ, but any pics of my son will be from Canada. MY IP Address will say that I am in Canada which is fine. My mother and sister are still back in NZ so I will make my home country as NZ for now. For Facebook, I dont check it every day - I am not addicted to FB, and I use a different name for privacy. My image is myself as a child - aged about 2 or 3 years old

This page shows off the island culture - mostly the local arts and crafts - as well a couple of family photos dated 1979. My parents had the option of returning to the Solomon Islands after their furlough holidays, but the high cost of putting me into a boarding school in NZ plus having grandparents who needed looking after, meant that they eventually chose not to return. I celebrated my 15th Birthday in 1979 and invited several of my schools friend to attend. The girls in this photo were the ones who were brave enough to come. I had other friends whom I had also invited, but they were either too shy or too busy. The main activity we did was to go swimming at a local river swimming hole.
The Copper map was commissioned for our family by ATASI, the company that Dad worked for, as a going away present. Copperware gifts are still made by students from the Betikama SDA (Seventh Day Adventist) Secondary School east of Honiara.
Nguzu (pronounced Nuzu - the g is silent) heads were small wooden statues carved and attached to the prows of local village canoes. In history, I believe they were attached to war canoes. The bowls are inlaid with mother of pearl, and the local currency are strings of shell rings, (rings made from shells) used as "money". The value of the string depends on how rare the shell is. Woven baskets always have lovely designs on them. These photos come from the Biukili Blog.

Great tie-in to your previous two layouts. It's fun to read all of the extra journaling in your descriptions, too!
Nice layout, thanks for sharing!
