About Me
New to Digital Scrapbooking, just started in 2019, want to make a record of family stories before my mother passes away. My dad died in 2016. I currently live in Canada but was born and raised in New Zealand, and emigrated to Canada upon marrying my Canadian spouse. Home Country - lets see - New Zealand or Canada? Which to choose? Most of my photos will be from NZ, but any pics of my son will be from Canada. MY IP Address will say that I am in Canada which is fine. My mother and sister are still back in NZ so I will make my home country as NZ for now. For Facebook, I dont check it every day - I am not addicted to FB, and I use a different name for privacy. My image is myself as a child - aged about 2 or 3 years old

The years after I finished High School were pretty quiet. I spent 1 year at university following a course of studies that I found I did not like. I flunked all my exams and was put on academic probation for 1 year. So I left the university and never bothered to go back. I went to polytech (technical vocational college) and tried to another course of studies there, but again this was not my passion and while I passed some of my exams, I knew I did not wish to continue.
So in the year that I would turn 21 years of age (1985), I got myself a job - contracted for 6 months - and also celebrated my 21st birthday. I still had no idea what I wanted to do for a career.
What I have (since) discovered about myself is that I have a wide range of interests and I do not like to be locked or tied down into one niche, because that would make my life very boring. The idea of having to do the same thing over and over again, from Monday to Friday, every single week, for 40 to 50 years - Ugh. No. This is not what I want to do.
But back in 1985, I had no idea that I felt this way, nor did I know why. So I did not know how to deal with it. Back then jobs were still in the "have a lifetime career" stage, and I only knew that I did not want to be stuck in one job for a lifetime.
One other thing I did discover during this time was my love for Star Trek and science fiction - but it had to be Sci Fi that was plausible (and possible). I also discovered that I was not really into Fantasy because it usually was not plausible. So Star Wars was out. Although I do watch the movies, just to keep up.

It looks like we're the opposite-- I'm more into fantasy, because I love the magic and worldbuilding and the escapist element. And Star Wars was my sci-fi gateway drug.
