About Me
New to Digital Scrapbooking, just started in 2019, want to make a record of family stories before my mother passes away. My dad died in 2016. I currently live in Canada but was born and raised in New Zealand, and emigrated to Canada upon marrying my Canadian spouse. Home Country - lets see - New Zealand or Canada? Which to choose? Most of my photos will be from NZ, but any pics of my son will be from Canada. MY IP Address will say that I am in Canada which is fine. My mother and sister are still back in NZ so I will make my home country as NZ for now. For Facebook, I dont check it every day - I am not addicted to FB, and I use a different name for privacy. My image is myself as a child - aged about 2 or 3 years old

Day 37 - Into the second week of our West Coast Vacation and by now the weather had become overcast and wet. It rained pretty much every day during that second week.
We had 2 major trips during the second week. The first was for Dad and I to drive all the way down to the Franz Josef Glacier while my mother, sister and nepherw did some "retail therapy" in Hokitika. So we all packed up and drove south for 2 hours. We dropped Mum, sister and nephew off at the town of Hokitika while Dad and I continued on to Franz Josef Glacier. I think the Glaciers are about a 3 hour drive from Westport.
We parked the car and walked up the valley, past several small waterfalls, to the face of the Glacier, with all its dirt, where we took some photos and then walked back to the car. The weather was poor, with a light drizzle, hence the rain coats.
We then had a 3 hour drive back to Westport, picking up mum, sister and nephew from Hokitika along the way.
It was not until after our visit to the Glacier that Global Warming became a huge topic, and the all of the Glaciers in the Southern Alps began to melt and retreat. The large photo of the Franz Josef Glacier above was taken in 2002. It shows that the Glacier had significantly retreated since the photo I took (on the far left) in 1993. I have no idea what the Glacier looks like in 2019.
