About Me
New to Digital Scrapbooking, just started in 2019, want to make a record of family stories before my mother passes away. My dad died in 2016. I currently live in Canada but was born and raised in New Zealand, and emigrated to Canada upon marrying my Canadian spouse. Home Country - lets see - New Zealand or Canada? Which to choose? Most of my photos will be from NZ, but any pics of my son will be from Canada. MY IP Address will say that I am in Canada which is fine. My mother and sister are still back in NZ so I will make my home country as NZ for now. For Facebook, I dont check it every day - I am not addicted to FB, and I use a different name for privacy. My image is myself as a child - aged about 2 or 3 years old

Day 77 - Todays locations looks just like yesterdays location. Are you sure they are not the same place? LOL No, I promise you, they are not. The Mavora Lakes are many miles away from the MacKenzie Country. The Mavora Lakes are in Southland. The MacKenzie Country is in Canterbury. Hundreds of miles apart.
When I was a child, my mothers sister and her family lived in the town of Twizel, (tw-eye-zel) which was built in the MacKenzie Country during the 1960s for those workers who were building the huge hydroelectric canals and dams for the several large lakes in the area. The 4 main lakes are Ohau, Pukaki, Tekapo and Benmore. They are connected by canals so that their glacial waters can be sent to the hydroelectric dams at Benmore and thus help create electricty for much of the South Island.
The Mackenzie Country is home to a number of high country sheep stations, and large open spaces - some of which is privately owned by said sheep stations. On the western side of this area, at the head of the glacial lakes, are the Southern Alps. The highest mountain, Mt Cook, can be seen from pretty much anywhere around Lake Pukaki.
Because of the very low population, there is pretty much no light pollution and a good amount of the MacKenzie Country is now protected as an International Dark Sky Conservation Space - where astronomers and astro-photographers can come and take photos without being bothered by light pollution.
The Wide open spaces that have become known as Pelennor Fields, appear to be along Rhoboro Downs Rd near Twizel. This was the location for several battles during the LOTR - but the most epic battle was the Battle for Minas Tirith. The vast numbers in each army were members of the NZ Army, all wearing costumes and riding horses. Since I am not sure that the NZ Army could have provided the large numbers as seen in the battle, many of the combatants were probably CGI'd into the scene.

That is a true story, Becky. I have seen it in the LOTR vlogs online.
I actually remember a story from behind the scenes saying that a lot of the combatants they used were also women that they glued beards onto, because they couldn't find enough men who were competent riders. :D Though I'd have to google it to verify.
