About Me
New to Digital Scrapbooking, just started in 2019, want to make a record of family stories before my mother passes away. My dad died in 2016. I currently live in Canada but was born and raised in New Zealand, and emigrated to Canada upon marrying my Canadian spouse. Home Country - lets see - New Zealand or Canada? Which to choose? Most of my photos will be from NZ, but any pics of my son will be from Canada. MY IP Address will say that I am in Canada which is fine. My mother and sister are still back in NZ so I will make my home country as NZ for now. For Facebook, I dont check it every day - I am not addicted to FB, and I use a different name for privacy. My image is myself as a child - aged about 2 or 3 years old

The House of Worth was a Haute Couture Fashion design house based in Paris from the end of the Victorian era and into the Edwardian era. It was founded by Charles Frederick Worth, who was actually from England. Charles died in 1895 but his 2 sons took over the business. One of the sons, Jean-Philippe Worth, was known for the Peacock Dress created by the House of Worth and worn for one night by the Baroness Mary Curzon at a ball in India in 1902 to celebrate the coronation of King Edward 7th. Her protrait was painted in 1903 as seen at top right.
The Peacock Dress itself is on display at Kedleston Hall in England, but it is now over 100 years and showing its age. There is currently an attempt by Cathy Hay, a Fashion Historian and Corset designer to reproduce the Peacock dress, but it has taken many years and as of November 2019, is currently incomplete. The beading at bottom right shows some of the original detail, which is why the modern dress has taken such a long time to make. The materials are also somewhat costly as well.
The House of Worth was located at 7 rue de la Paix in the second Arrondisement of Paris. The House of Worth was run by the family for 4 generations from Charles Frederick Worth, through his 2 sons and down through a grandson Jacques and a great grandson, Roger. The business folded in the 1950s and was sold to another fashion house. There was an attempt to revive the name as a fashion couture house in 1999 which was eventually unsuccessful, but the expansion into the perfumery business has kept the name alive.

So creative, love it
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing both the layout and the history. What a great idea for preserving memories of historical things that pique our interest!
Fascinating! Thanks for the history behind the name. It caught my eye as Ive just finished reading Georgette Heyer's "An Infamous Army", set in 1815, which has a Lord and Lady Worth as major characters.
