About Me
New to Digital Scrapbooking, just started in 2019, want to make a record of family stories before my mother passes away. My dad died in 2016. I currently live in Canada but was born and raised in New Zealand, and emigrated to Canada upon marrying my Canadian spouse. Home Country - lets see - New Zealand or Canada? Which to choose? Most of my photos will be from NZ, but any pics of my son will be from Canada. MY IP Address will say that I am in Canada which is fine. My mother and sister are still back in NZ so I will make my home country as NZ for now. For Facebook, I dont check it every day - I am not addicted to FB, and I use a different name for privacy. My image is myself as a child - aged about 2 or 3 years old

These are some photos around my home town of Putaruru, in South Waikato, New Zealand. we lived on the west side of Town until 1969 when the house was flooded one too many times, and so we moved, to the east side, on a hillside, with a view and better drainage. But we girls continued attending the same school back on the west side, passing at least 2 other primary (elementary) schools to do so. All the local children went to the nearest primary school. We did not. Nothing of any real interest happened during the early 1970s.
There were TWO timber/lumber mills in Putaruru at this time. Both in direct competition with each other. One was the TTT for whom Dad worked. The other was simply called Putaruru Timber mill (as far as I can tell). I never knew of anyone who had family working there, that I am aware of. TTT was eventually purchased by the huge Corporation NZFP - New Zealand Forest Products. The Putaruru Timber mill burnt down, possibly in the 1980s.
The Round Building in the centre of town was the new Post Office, built in the early 1970s. It was a source of pride for us locals because it was the only round building in the country - until the Beehive was built in Wellington for the Government. The Beehive was begun in 1969 and finally completed in 1981.
