Description
The busy port of St. John’s is our gateway to an “Island Safari 4X4 Off Road Tour.” Leaving the capitol city with its historic twin-towered St. John’s Cathedral, we head into the countryside and rough, unpaved roads. Along the way we see people working in their garden plots, a snowy egret, cattle, and crops of pineapple and bananas. The economy is primarily tourist-based however. Swete’s Village is the site of a couple of pretty churches, Cana Moravian Church and Swete’s Wesleyan Methodist Church., as well as colorful houses. We pass the ruins of a sugar mill; its stone base originally was topped with a windmill to provide power for crushing the sugar cane.
